The University of Leeds wins prestigious SHP IOSH Award

Rivo, sponsors of the SHP IOSH Awards, are pleased to congratulate its client, the University of Leeds, on winning the award for best achievement in local authorities and education. The annual SHP IOSH Awards provide a platform to promote best practice and excellence in the Safety, Health & Environmental sectors.

The University embarked on a bold campaign to embed Health and Safety at the heart of its strategy, to raise awareness of Health and Safety and provide clear information to help staff make informed decisions. The University worked hard to reach these goals by making changes such as:

• Appointing a team of faculty and service Health and Safety managers, along with the first Director of Health, Safety and Wellbeing in a UK university
• Doubling the Health and Safety budget to £1.4m over two years
• Writing new campus-wide Health and Safety policies
• Creating a campus-wide campaign to get everyone involved in Health and Safety
• Implementing Safeguard - Rivo’s web-based risk assessment application.

Britain’s newest university signs up to use Safeguard
Formed through the union of The Surrey Institute of Art & Design, University College and the Kent Institute of Art & Design, the University for the Creative Arts is one of the UK's leading providers of specialist art and design education, offering strengths in art, design, architecture, media and communication. With 5 locations and around 6,500 students, the University was looking for a way of improving accident and incident recording and reporting and raising awareness of Health & Safety throughout the organisation.

University of Leeds select Safeguard
The University of Leeds is the UK’s second largest university with 30,500 students, 8000 staff spread over 9 Faculties. Rivo are pleased to announce that the University of Leeds has chosen Rivo Safeguard to provide a common system for managing Risk Assessments and COSHH across all Faculties, Schools and Services.

Training Matrix
The training matrix can be used to manage employee training records and training requirements. The Matrix allows organisations to monitor and identify the following:

• Ensure employees are trained to carry out the tasks involved within their job roles
• Job roles and the different training requirements associated to them.
• Training requirements can be categorised for example as mandatory or optional, based on job roles. This allows training courses to be prioritised.
• Identify each employee’s training to date and future training required.
• The training matrix can also be used to identify the training completed, and required for third parties such as contractors.

Course Management
With the new functionality Safeguard users are now able to more efficiently manage a programme of courses by:

• Creating a training course where the potential delegate list is auto created based on the training matrix.
• Ensure the correct delegates are selected based on their job roles and the types of training to be delivered.
• Delegates are invited to attend, or are enrolled onto courses based on a defined minimum and maximum number of places on a course.
• All invites and enrolments are communicated via email notifications.
• Course registers are produced and automatically populated with delegate names and dates
• Completed courses are marked to identify delegate attendance / non-attendance, and pass marks.
• Non-attendance can be reduced through reminder emails for scheduled courses.

Rivo Software is pleased to announce that our integrated management system for quality, environment and occupational Health and Safety has been approved to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 by an independent Certification Body.

Many of the controls that Rivo has put in place are managed using our software system, Safeguard. Specifically, Safeguard is used to record and manage accidents, incidents and near misses, for DSE assessments and the follow up of any issues raised, for recording Risk Assessments and ensuring that they are reviewed and updated regularly, for maintaining records of employee training and training needs, and for scheduling and recording our internal audits.

Having already raised around £13,000 for Leukaemia Research after running the London Marathon in April this year, Simon hopes to get more people to give blood as currently only 4% of the eligible population actually donates blood. Talking about his latest challenge Simon said “Leukaemia Research is a charity close to my heart as they are the only charity in the UK dedicated exclusively to researching blood cancers and disorders. They are committed to giving everyone living with Leukaemia the best chance of survival. Leukaemia Research receives no government grants and their life-saving research depends entirely on voluntary donations. Rivo are pleased to announce that the University of Kent has decided to implement Safeguard to provide a more focused solution to managing its occupational Health & Safety across its two main sites.

Kingstown Works provide building maintenance and construction services in Hull and East Yorkshire and whose clients include Hull City Council, public and private sector buildings, churches, museums and libraries have selected Safeguard to provide a comprehensive health and safety management system to enable the organisation to record and report accidents and incidents more easily and to manage audits and risk assessments.
